Soft and rutted track conditions made for an entertaining 11th round of the AMA Monster Energy Supercross Championship inside Seattle’s Lumen Field. Star Racing Yamaha’s Cooper Webb mastered the conditions to take the win and extend his lead in the championship, but it wasn’t cut and dry.

Webb took the holeshot and led early on until Ken Roczen (Ecstar Progressive Suzuki) and Chase Sexton (Red Bull KTM) both found a way past. But, Webb didn’t panic and was able to make some moves himself, picking off Roczen and then Sexton before defending a last-corner lunge from the KTM rider to take victory by the narrowest of margins.

“I really wanted that one,” enthused Webb afterwards. “Me and Kenny [Roczen] were going back and forth. Then Chase got both of us and yeah, it was time to go! I had to get there with Kenny, I got around him, and then it was game on. It was so gnarly. I wish people could get a POV of the track, the ruts and the lappers. That was one of the gnarliest tracks that I’ve ever ridden and that was an absolute slugfest, two of the best guys right now going for it. You had to ride that fine line. He had that rhythm line that was a lot faster but I just kept charging and couldn’t let him get two in a row, that’s for sure. I want to give it up to the good Lord. These fans were awesome all night, we could hear them over our bikes… Like I said, this is strictly business.”

Behind the lead pair, Aaron Plessinger (Red Bull KTM) rode through the field to third place leading home Roczen and Dylan Ferrandis (Phoenix Racing Honda).

In the championship chase, Webb continues to lead the way and now has 236 points – 11 more than Sexton on 225. Roczen sits third in the championship on 202 – 25 ahead of Malcolm Stewart (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) on 177.

The 17-round Supercross season continues with a race every Saturday until the season finale in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 10. The next round will find the racers inside Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts on April 5.
