Star Racing Yamaha’s Nate Thrasher claimed victory in the 250SX East class at the Birmingham, Alabama round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship to become the fifth winner in the opening five rounds of the series.

Thrasher’s 3-3-2 scorecard saw him collect the win in a better final race tiebreaker over race one winner RJ Hampshire (Rockstar Energy GASGAS) whose 1-2-5 results kept him ahead of series leader Tom Vialle (Red Bull KTM). Seth Hammaker (Pro Circuit Monster Energy Kawasaki) won races two and three but a fall in race one – where he’d eventually finish ninth – kept him off the podium.

The Triple Crown format round started without Brit Max Anstie (Star Racing Yamaha) who crashed in qualifying and broke his fibula. He’ll most likely sit out the rest of the Supercross series as he prepares for the Pro Motocross Championship that starts in May.

Third overall for Vialle keeps his championship lead intact although Hampshire edges closer with the gap between the two now at 10 points. Hammaker sits three behind Hampshire with Anste tied with Thrasher for fourth.

As the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship heads to Seattle, the 250SX West series resumes with the 250SX East competitors next seeing action in Foxborough on April 6. The East series continues with back-to-back rounds in Philadelphia, East Rutherford and Pittsburgh before the Salt Lake City East/West Showdown wraps things up on May 11.
