Star Racing Yamaha’s Cooper Webb was gifted victory at Round Seven of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series held in Arlington, Texas. The second Triple Crown event of the series saw Webb take the overall win with a 6-1-1 scorecard ahead of Ken Roczen (Progressive ECSTAR Suzuki) who ran 1-5-3 and Sexton whose 3-2-5 results were good enough for third. The victory sees Webb move ahead of Sexton in the series standings with Daytona up next.

The night started with a win for Roczen who overcame strong-starting Justin Cooper (Star Racing Yamaha). Sexton placed third ahead of Justin Hill (Team Tedder KTM) and Justin Barcia (Rockstar Energy GASGAS) with Webb sixth.

Race two saw Cooper grab the initial lead until Sexton worked his way to the front. But Cooper wasn’t ready to roll over and came fighting back. Sexton then clipped his rear wheel in a turn and overbalanced crashing before a rhythm section and giving up a place to Webb. Webb was then able to overcome his teammate to take over the lead and eventually race to victory with Cooper leading home Sexton and Hill.

At this point, Justin Cooper held the overall advantage albeit tied with Sexton setting up an interesting finale.

Hill holeshot Main Event #3 ahead of Red Bull KTM’s Aaron Plessinger who made an aggressive pass on Hill to take the lead as Roczen followed him through. At the end of lap one, Roczen moved into the lead as Plessinger got buck wild in the whoops and ran off the track.

Several laps later Sexton moved by Hill in the whoops – passing under waved yellows is apparently a thing these days – and took off after Roczen. At this point, the Red Bull KTM rider was in line to take the overall win.

However, rather than play it safe and collect the 25 points, he got embroiled in a battle for the lead and after several back and forths with Roczen, moved ahead and then stalled the motor exiting a turn and lost places to Webb and Roczen. After getting going again, Sexton passed Roczen soon enough and then with the overall win secure, clipped Webb’s rear wheel and crashed again. This time slipping back to fifth and losing the overall advantage to Webb!

As Cooper celebrated winning, a dejected Sexton sat on the back of a berm with his hands covering his face – he was not happy!

“There’s not much to say,” said Chase. “It’s pretty embarrassing - stalling it, going down, losing the overall. It’s just not going to cut it. We’ve got a lot of work to do, go work on the bike and myself, and come back for Daytona.”

Webb meanwhile was a much happier camper. “It was a great battle,” he said. “Chase and I were coming through the pack, and we were going for it. We got around Kenny and then the battle was on. He made that mistake and stalled it [and gave up the lead], and I actually ended up stalling myself. It was a duel until the end. I felt a little something at the end and then I heard the crowd - I was just in disbelief like everyone else.”
