Star Racing Yamaha’s Cooper Webb took a stunning victory at Detroit’s Ford Field to take victory in Round Six of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series as red plate holder Chase Sexton made a move through the field from last to third after getting caught in the start gate. By securing victory, Webb now ties Sexton for the lead in the championship with a Triple Crown event in Arlington, Texas up next.

“I knew I was riding well today so it was going to be a good race and we had some good laps,” said Webb after. “Roczen rode well all through the Main Event. I was trying hard, and he picked up on some of my lines. It was a tough race but I’ve been in that position before and it felt great. I’m stoked to get that first win and get the red plate. It just felt awesome.”

Red Bull KTM’s Aaron Plessinger took the early lead until Ken Roczen (Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki) took the lead which he held for the majority of the Main Event. However, Webb was stalking the Suzuki star and pulled the pin to take over the lead that he held until the finish. Roczen stayed with him but had to be content with second place on the night. Sexton charged to third, taking the final podium position from Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson who crashed all by himself several laps later to place sixth on the night behind last week’s winner Malcolm Stewart (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) and Star Racing’s Justin Cooper.

In the championship chase, Sexton and Webb are tied on 121 apiece with Roczen third on 105. Anderson sits fourth on 100 with Stewart rounding out the top five on 95 points.
