Deegan dazzles but Roczen dominates in WSX season opener

Ken Roczen proved he’s back to his best after storming to a perfect clean sweep at the Buenos Aires City GP, opening round of the 2025 World Supercross Championship.
Despite coming into the weekend feeling under the weather, the 31-year-old German superstar delivered a flawless performance that reminded everyone exactly why he’s one of the most gifted riders of his generation.
Roczen set the tone by topping Superpole, then backed it up with wins in both Sprint races and the Main Event in front of a packed and deafening Argentine crowd. It was a statement ride - calm, controlled and clinical - as he launched his title campaign in style.
“I feel like I rode really well,” said Roczen. “With the track and the moisture, there’s a fine line between pushing for speed and sliding out and making mistakes. It happens so quick in the whoops because of the moisture. But man, I had fun out there! I thought the track was awesome and I had an incredible night!”
After a tough spell with injuries and setbacks, Roczen’s commitment to all five WSX rounds this year underlines his intent to go all-in for another world title and on the evidence of Buenos Aires, few will bet against him.
Behind him, Justin Cooper claimed second overall, while Haiden Deegan lit up the night with a sensational podium finish on his SX1 debut. The 19-year-old American – racing outside the US for the very first time – battled through a clutch issue and a last gate pick to fight his way to third in the Main Event, earning huge cheers from the Argentine fans.
“I’m still getting used to this bike, so I’m just learning and progressing every time I get out there,” said Haiden. “We’re giving it all we’ve got. The crowd was insane. I love Argentina! I’ve dreamed of racing against Ken since I was a little kid - I had his jersey in my room. So just being on the same track with these guys is a huge accomplishment for me, my team, and my family.”
Roczen now heads to Vancouver for the second round as the man to beat while Deegan leaves Argentina as the sport’s newest superstar-in-waiting.
