A 90th X-Trial win for Toni Bou but world title #37 eludes him
By Team TMX on 17th Mar 25

Repsol Honda’s Toni Bou won the X-Trial Wiener Neustadt – his 90th X-Trial victory – but second place for Jaime Busto (GASGAS) meant that the 36-time world champion will have to wait to secure that 37th crown. Bou’s victory in Austria was his fifth win from six starts and the 38-year-old Spaniard now holds an amazing 36-point lead in the championship with two rounds left.
Bou was in fine form from the off and dominated all night – winning the Q1, Superpole and the Final although Busto made him work hard for it. Gabriel Marcelli rounded out the top three with Matteo Grattarola (Beta) joining them in the Final after winning Q2.
Britain’s Jack Peace (Sherco) had an amazing night in Austria and found the form that saw him challenge for victory in the DL12 Indoor earlier this year. Peace was a solid fourth in Q1 and placed second in Q2 – however, only the winner of the LCQ transfers to the Final and Jack had to watch from the stands. Still, fifth place on the night beating Alex Canales (Montesa), Sherco teammate Benoit Bincaz and local talent Marco Mempor (TRRS) is an outstanding result and elevates him to eighth place in the series standings.
The next round of the championship takes place in Cahors, France on March 22 where barring total disaster, Bou is assured of taking world title #37.
“I'm very happy with how it went today,” said Bou. “We did our job very well, and it was very important to get this win. In Cahors, we'll go out there with the same mentality of not making mistakes so that we can win the championship."
