Talmag – no two-strokes required!
By John Dickinson on 26th Jan 18
This Sunday (January 28) is the biggest of the year for many riders as it marks the running of the infamous Talmag Trial, the annual gathering staged by the Territorial Army (London) MCC which caters only for four-stroke machines!
As ever, interest in the event, which will take place as ever at Hungry Hill, Aldershot, Hants, has been HUGE with almost 200 accepted entries with around 180 solos and 15 sidecars. Get down there and you can wallow in the sound of the good old thumpers from yesteryear (and the rasp of rorty twins of course) from the days when the British motorcycle industry ruled the roost.
Yes, it really did. Ariel, BSA, Matchless, AJS, Norton, Royal Enfield and more all played their part.Theres around 20 lightweights, Cubs, BSA C15s etc but the vast majority are good old heavyweights.
Many will be in virtually original condition, theres even around a dozen entered, dating back to 1929, with girder front forks and another 20 or so rigid rears. And adding spice theres also the odd Velocette, Panther and even Italian MV Agusta and Ducati machinery.
