Repsol Honda’s Toni Bou and Gabriel Marcelli delivered the old one-two as the X-Trial World Championship visited Stavanger in Norway for Round Five.

Bou topped the Q1 round and then went fastest in Superpole before dominating the final to secure victory with two sections to spare. The 36-time world champ dropped just one mark in the opening three sections before everyone fived the fourth meaning that the win was his.

“I'm very happy because it's a vital victory for the championship,” said Toni. “We came from Barcelona with a great feeling and here we had a great first round. The first part of the final was very difficult, but we got through it successfully. Then we made some mistakes, but we already had the victory assured. The break will be good for us because we didn't have much time to prepare for preseason, so I'm looking forward to gathering strength and continuing with the dynamic in Austria."

Behind him, Marcelli and Jaime Busto (GASGAS) battled to the bitter end to determine the final two podium positions as Q2 winner Alex Canales (Montesa) failed to get to grips with the difficult sections.

After tying on 23 marks apiece after six sections, a run off was needed to settle who’d finish second with Marcelli managing a clean ride while Busto needed a dab.

With three rounds in the championship left to run, Bou now sits on a 31-point advantage over Busto – 95 for the champ and 64 for Jaime. Marcelli leapfrogs the retired Adam Raga to move into third place in the championship ahead of a short break until Round Six in Vienna, Austria on March 15.
