Trials Torque: Belgium all set for TrialGP show

Trials

THERES just one FIM Trial World Championship event to take place before the big one - which is of course the two day British Round, next weekend, July 16/17 at Tong, Bradford and that is the Belgian round that will take place this Sunday, July 10.

The Belgian trial is the only single day round in the 2016 series.

The Belgian TrialGP will take place at Comblain au Pont, near Liege, and the big news for Britain is that JST Cloburn Gas Gas rider Jack Peace will almost certainly clinch the Trial125 Championship on Sunday.

Should this happen it will allow Jack the pleasure of riding his home round as reigning champ so fingers crossed for that!

Despite once being a major player in the World Championship, with the infamous Bilstain trials park being virtually a permanent TWC venue throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Belgium has only staged three rounds since 2001.

The last Belgian round was 2014, also at Comblain au Pont when the top three were Toni Bou, Adam Raga and Albert Cabestany so that's something to go off.

With Repsol Honda team leader Bou still only 20 Championship points ahead of TRS ace Raga, Adam still has chance to gain points and exert some pressure on his nemesis as the series approaches its conclusion.

A surprise third in the series is Bou's veteran Repsol Honda team mate Takahisa Fujinami and Fujigas took a sensational win on the second day of the last round in France to take himself 19 points clear of his teenage apprentice Jaime Busto.

Busto currently leads a battle for fourth along with Sherco's Cabestany and the duelling Vertigo factory pairing of Jeroni Fajardo and Britain's only TrialGP contender James Dabill.

Dabill is riding as well as, if not better, than ever and has already bagged a brace of podiums this year, the added presence of new teammate Fajardo this year spurring James to raise the level of his game.

Trial2 sees young gun Jack Price on the Gas Gas look to increase his advantage as he hopes to bag his Championship in his home round next week!

Jack, riding superbly this season in all competitions, has won five of the 10 days of Trial2 and sits on 173 points to the 137 fellow Brit, TTT Beta ace Iwan Roberts' 137.

Spain's Gas Gas hopeful Arnau Farre sits third on 129 with Dan Peaceon 116.

With two scores to drop at season end all is not quite what it seems of course but such is Price's lead it would take a disaster to rob him of the title.
