Trials Torque: BTC goes Wales watching
By John Dickinson on 11th May 16
THIS Sunday, May 15 just a week after the Scottish Six Days Trial its round three of the RT Keedwell ACU British Trials Championships and the contestants head to South Wales for the Neath clubs St Davids trial.
Once again the venue will be Lletty Rafel Farm, Aberdulais, near Neath, (SA10 8HR).
The opening two rounds of the series were staged by Lakes MTA last month at Fell Green, Bootle, Cumbria.
The first day was a real tough event and the sections were eased for Round 2 but the winner was the same both days, Vertigo factory rider James Dabill claiming a maximum 40 Championship points.
As Dibs got his Championship away to the best possible start his rivals were tripping over themselves behind him.
But Beta UK rider Jack Sheppard emerged in second overall from Ross Danby, now campaigning the TRS for Steve Saunders.
Michael Brown didn't enjoy the best of weekends, emerging in fifth overall on just 22 points.
But the Gas Gas rider was on top form at the Scottish Six Days, pipped only by the legend that is Dougie Lampkin – and he must go into the St David's as Dibs' main challenger.
Dan Thorpe also helped himself to a double in Cumbria and the Gas Gas UK stalwart isn't planning on giving-up his Experts title in a hurry.
Tom Minta currently sits in second on the Montesa with Sherco's Chris Pearson third while Joel Edwards and Jimmy Stones share fourth.
Jack Peace is unbeaten in Youth A with Keiran Child and Joe Dawson currently scrapping for second and third overall.
It will be a long way to south Wales for Joe from his Dunfermline base in Scotland. Sunday's action will get underway at 9.30 am, when the riders will set out to complete three laps of 12 challenging sections.
