Trials Torque: Experts enjoy a drop of Southern comfort
By John Dickinson on 30th Nov 16
THE 75th Southern Experts takes place this Sunday, December 4, at Hook Wood Trials Centre courtesy of Hook Woods Trials Club.
And there's an interesting and quality entry for all classes.
Sam Haslam is the reigning champ and the Gas Gas stalwart sets out to retain his crown which he won last year in Butser Limeworks, Oetersfield, Hants, after a dogfight with South West ace Joe Baker.
The pair were neck and neck on 11 marks going into the penultimate section when Joe dropped
two marks and Sam held his nerve to win.
It won't be just about these two though in the very different confines of Hook Wood where Jim Connor and the lads always come up with testing hazards.
Sam Connor can still ride a bit as can fellow vet Jonny Starmer but expect a real challenge from younger riders, Tom Minta from South Shropshire and Cornish young gun Toby Martyn.
Both have had excellent 2016 seasons and would love to finish with a Southern Experts title.
There's other classes up for grabs including Youths where south west Billy Green must surely start as favourite.
There's also a competitive Clubman class which includes MTB star and TV commentator not to mention former National trials ace Rob Warner. Last but certainly not least there's no fewer than 10 sidecar crews entered split down the middle in Clubman and Expert classes.
Anything can happen with the all-action chairs which include Chris and Rupert Kimber and Paul and Sean Cuckow.
The action will kick-off at 9.30am prompt at Hook Wood TC, West Horsley, Surrey, KT246EA and a great day's sport is guaranteed.
