Trials Torque: KIA is here!

Trials

THIS Sunday sees the opening round of the eagerly-awaited nine-round 2016 KIA National Twin-shock Trials Championship.

And the organising Congleton club has received a mighty 150 entries – which proves once again that if you provide what the boys (and girls) want they will support you.

Or as Kevin Costner might say, "If you build it they will come!”

As the KIA sponsored series enters its third year it clearly goes from strength to strength and the main classes of Historic Spanish, Open Twin-shock, Britshock and the rapidly gaining momentum Air-cooled mono class have grabbed the imagination.

There has been plenty of social media joshing as the first round approaches and Sunday will definitely be a case of, "The proof of the pudding...” The 150 hopefuls will turn out on a fantastic variety of machinery from standard 1970s Bultacos etc, a selection of equally standard Air-cooled monos (where did all those TY250s go..?) to state of the art new-build/ rebuild Britshocks and Twin-shocks.

Expect to see some beautifully prepped winter rebuilds on Sunday.

There were some very shiny specimens at the recent Telford Classic Bike Show, especially Honda Twinshocks...

Oh, nearly forgot, several characters have threatened to turn up on 100cc (or under) mounts. Could this be the future?

It would almost be unfair to name riders at this stage but we can tell you that defending KIA Champs Steven Davies, Steve Bird, Stephen Bisby, Rob Faulkner and Gerry Minshall will be in the mix – although not necessarily contesting the same classes!

Lime Kiln Farm, Mow Cop (ST7 3PP) near Congleton, Cheshire, is the venue and in the past it has proved superb – hence the large entry. Two laps of 20 sections is the planned format.

And they will be a mix of rocky streams in deep gullies, rocky outcrops, slippery bankings and a bit of mud here and there, in other words a little bit of everything.

Kick-off time is 10.30am and with such a large entry several starting points will be offered, secton one or section six.

It should just help ease the early congestion as the venue and lap length are big enough to keep queueing down to reasonable levels.

Time to get your breath back anyway. And don't miss next week's TMX for a full report complete with piccies...
