Trials Torque: Scott Time's Here Again!
By John Dickinson on 21st Sep 16
ENTRIES for the Richmond clubs infamous Time and Observation Scott Trial have now officially closed with a mighty 200 hopefuls having signed on the dotted line for the toughest days trials riding in the world, on Saturday, October 22.
With just a month to go before the riders are flagged away from the start field at Feldom Range, Marske, near Reeth in deepest Yorkshire – to tackle some 80 miles and a similar number of sections – rider training and prep is reaching a crescendo.
Or at least it should be, and those who have been slacking or just plain procrastinating are now beginning to sweat.
Heading the entry is last year's popular winner Ian Austermuhle, the east Yorks ace victorious on his Beta last year after 19 years of trying.
But Ian will have his work cut out to repeat his hard won victory as he will be up against other past winners like Dougie Lampkin, James Dabill, Michael Brown and local ace Jonathan Richardson.
One name that will add to the interest is Swedish World Championship contender Eddie Karlsson and the Montesa rider is certainly very fit and will give it all he's got.
Just four girls have entered but it's a quality foursome with World Champ Emma Bristow joined by locals Katy Sunter, a multi Scott finisher, and Chloe Richardson.
The fourth girl is current World Women's vice champion Sandra Gomez.
An all-round off-roader with enduro and Scottish Six Days experience Sandra, from Madrid, will be all out for a debut finish.
With first-timers like Tom Minta and Dan Peace there will be plenty of competition amongst the younger contenders, while Scott regulars include Ben and Dan Hemingway, James Lampkin, Ross Danby, Sam Haslam and Alexz Wigg, plus current hot-shots like Jack Price and Iwan Roberts.
There are entries from all four corners of the UK and we'll keep you posted on all Scott developments as the great day rapidly approaches.
