Trials Torque: Travers all set for big S3 finale
By John Dickinson on 21st Sep 16
THE popular S3 Parts British Clubman Championship comes to a close this Sunday with the Newcastle clubs Travers Trophy Trial, the ninth and final event in the 2016 series.
And the rejuvenated Travers has attracted a bumper entry of 90 riders who will contest the S3 and an accompanying Clubman class.
The event will start in the village of Allenheads, near Hexham, before competitors enjoy a 35-mile course taking in 40 sections in numerous groups in the Weardale and Teesdale area.
The course plotters have come up with a couple of new groups and new sections in the regular ones to keep the trial fresh and the regular runners on their toes.
Sherco's James Fry has already been crowned as 2016 S3 champ having scored the maximum 20 points in each round and is going for the full-house on Sunday.
But he will be up against some stiff opposition including Jonathan Richardson, James Stones, former champ Chris Pearson and local ace John Crinson while Richard Sadler, Guy Kendrew and Dan Thorpe will join in the fun as while not eligible for S3 points they will be gunning for the overall victory and the Travers Trophy.
Paul Sullivan will be the first S3 Parts contender away at No.30 with the rest following in a bunch.
All please note that the start time has been brought forward to 9.30am and the postcode to aim for is NE47 9HJ.
It's a good trial for spectators with groups by the side of the road and a pleasant drive round the remote moorland.
But watch out for bikers and cyclists who frequent the area for their Sunday ride out.
