World Intoor Trials wrap
By John Dickinson on 30th Dec 14
THE 2014 World X-Trial (Indoor) Championship was a short, sharp, five-round series of events that began in Sheffield, England, on January 4 and ended in Oviedo, Spain, on March 28, having visited Marseille, Barcelona and Milan in between, spreading the series load between four countries.
The championship was, as expected, dominated by one man – Repsol Montesa team leader Toni Bou – who won all five rounds, virtually unopposed, en route to taking his eighth consecutive X-Trial crown, the first seven in tandem with the outdoor World Trials Championship.
And, as we know now, Toni added the matching eighth outdoor title at the end of the year to keep his trophy cabinet nice and neat!
So, as the Catalan ace raced away to the title, the interest was largely on who would finish second and third in the series. And that battle was between the two veterans, Albert Cabestany and Adam Raga.
Gas Gas-mounted Raga was favourite to give Bou a run for his money, but in Sheffield Adam had a disaster and scored just six championship points for fifth place, while the ever-steady Cabestany nailed 15 points having finished a close second to Bou in the final.
