‘09 provisional GP calendar...
By TMX Archives on 25th Jun 08
MALLORY Park will again host the British GP in 2009, and the race will again be held on the final weekend of May May 30/31.
The provisional calendar issued by Youthstream and the FIM shows few changes from this year, the addition of an American round at an as yet un-named track increasing the series from 15 to 16 races.
Other than that the only alterations are the Latvian round in Kegums, already announced last year, in place of one of the Italian rounds.
There are not even many changes of track, the 'new' venues being the glorious Castiglione del Lago track in the rolling Umbrian hills, north of Rome, as the sole Italian venue with Ernee taking its turn in France in place of St Jean D'Angely.
Most GPs have been coupled on consecutive weekends to help reduce travelling costs.
The MX des Nations will, as previously announced, be held at Franciacorta in Italy on September 26/27.
There is a significant increase in the number of rounds of the Ladies series to ten, while the Veteran World Cup is also increased from three to five with the addition of Valkenswaard and Dublin.
A total of 15 MX3 GPs, coupled with a variety of Euro series, are also named, while Supermoto again has just eight races, the Austrian event the only one not on the Mediterranean. While UK interest in both these series has previously been fairly low, there is a possibility that this could change with news that the new team in charge of Foxhill Moto Park could make a bid for the British round of the World MX3 series, scheduled at present, for July 12, 2009.
With no MX1/ MX2 round that weekend it means that the likes of Billy MacKenzie, James Noble, Brad Anderson and Tom Church would be be able to contest the event!
