All quiet on the quad front...

We find ourselves at a quiet time in the quad calendar, with only one practice event scheduled for this coming weekend and less than a handful of clubs organising anything at all over the winter months.

On the one hand it's no surprise that clubs are holding back on spending the time, trouble and effort of running events and attempting to run classes for quads when rider support has proven to be marginal to non-existent in the winter months. On the other hand, if clubs don't promote the fact that they are running events or, specifically here, quad classes within those events, then they can hardly complain at the lack of entries. And on the third hand (?!) there is the odd organiser who sets out dates, swears blind that the event is happening and then cancels it without telling anyone. Oh yes...

But can anyone really blame riders for not wanting to coat their machines in freezing grinding paste every weekend over the winter months? Most of us who live off the rich list are looking at every penny we spend these days and so riders are of course being more selective about when and where and how often they ride. Even at local club level, without the expense of any crash or mechanical damage, there won't be much change from £100 by the time the entry and the fuel to the event have been paid and the machine maintained. And that £100 can buy a lot of brownie points at home. Or food for the table. Or heating. Or...

Back on the club front, some still give us flak about certain ‘favoured' clubs getting their information published, while others don't get a mention. What a load of bull. Yes, certain clubs do get plenty of publicity here and elsewhere, simply because they get off their backsides and get their information in on time in a format and style that is usable. It's not always perfect poetry, and we don't expect it to be, but we also don't expect to get a stabbing from people who send information in late, or don't even send anything at all!

There is no agenda, no favourites and no points to be won. If all the information gets to us by Monday morning, at the latest, then it will go in that week's paper.
