Back to basics for Shaun!
By TMX Archives on 7th Oct 09

RED Bull KTM factory rider, Shaun Simpson, went back to basics at the MX des Nations, when the 21 year-old World star was forced to revert to a less glamorous form of mobile accommodation. Shaun's trusty, but not so rusty Mercedes Sprinter panel van was very much a talking point in the paddock, as it lined up against a host of sleeker and more luxurious models. Simpson made the long trip to Italy in his N plate van, which dates back to 1995, after his current motorhome was repossessed as a result of the supplier/ sponsor recently going into liquidation.
With Shaun now having fully recovered from his horrific leg injury sustained during an early season training accident, the young Scot is now very much focussed on being ready for next year. We will do some final testing on the linkage bike before we stop riding for the year, and then I will have a few weeks off before starting my winter training programme, Simpson explained.
Shaun continued: My recovery has gone really well, and it has been good to get back on a bike, especially as it was earlier than I expected, even though I am not totally bike fit due to a lack of riding. I have enjoyed riding the MX1, but I am now committed to being back on the MX2 bike and doing everything possible to win the World Championship next year.
Losing the motorhome just about sums up this year, but hopefully there is someone out there who is prepared to help me out with the loan of a vehicle for 2010, and being a part of what I hope will be a much better season all round.
