THE BYMX Championship, backed by PAR Homes, heads north of the border to Scotland this coming weekend, July 28/29, when the Glenrothes club play host to the series at its excellent Leuchars venue, just outside of St Andrews.
The circuit at Leuchars has held a round of thechampionship for a number of years and its sandy track on the coastwill be a good challenge for the penultimate round of the hotlycontested series.
Ben Watson continues to dominate the 65cc Juniorclass on his PAR Homes KTM, taking four victories at Haverigg to extendhis series lead to 69 points over the Protech/Vans KTM of Jack Heath.Jack lost a bit of ground to Callan Cooper at the last round whereCooper, on the Moggstar KTM, picked up three second places. MichaelEccles also picked-up two good third places at the previous round andcurrently sits behind Mattthew Callaghan and Corrie Southwood in thetable.
A disappointing fourth race at Haverigg preventedthe Hooper Properties Honda of Rob Muscat making an impression on theSmall-wheel 85cc series lead. Muscat had won the first three outingsbut still lost out by one point to Matthew Flemming on the Dunlop/Motone Honda whose championship lead is now 33 points. All is to playfor with eight races still to go. Scott Alldridge lost out in racethree on his 360 Technologies KTM and slipped down to fourth in thestandings behind the T&W KTM of Dan Thornhill.
Albion Honda rider, Sam Davis, picked up hislowest race score of the season so far in the opening race of theweekend at Haverigg but came back with three race wins to extend hischampionship lead to 100 points, a margin only bettered in the Premierclass. Second in the championship, Richie Worrall, on the SixSixOneSuzuki, had a bad day last time out and only a DNF for Redline KTM'sJosh Spinks stopped him from climbing up the order, so expect both ofthese riders to be battling it out at Leuchers for second spot in theseries standings. Last year's Small-wheel 85cc champion, ConnorWalkley, currently sits in fourth place on the Team Green Kawasaki andwill be pushing to move towards the top and stay ahead of JamesHutchinson's Bikesport Yamaha.
The 125cc Intermediate class is beginning tohot-up with PAR Homes Honda rider David Games coming to form. Games setthe five fastest laps in qualifying at the sandy Haverigg round andwill be looking to repeat that performance at Leuchars in similarconditions. Two race wins and a DNF for series leader Lewis Tombs hasseen Games close to within a striking distance of just 41 points, whileWill Worden took the overall at Haverigg on his JD Racing KTM to closewithin 15 points of Games and keep the pressure on coming into theclosing stages of the championship
Premier class rider Alex Rockwell, on the RDHPro-Circuit Honda, heads the table by a massive 110 points, as well asleading the new MXY2 class at the Maxxis, proving himself to be the oneto beat in 2007. Lewis King, failing to finish in the last race atHaverigg on the Team Green Kawasaki, didn't improve his chances ofcatching Rockwell and allowed PAR Homes Honda's Mel Pocock to getwithin a race score in third, only 36 points behind. Pocock will belooking to catch King even if Rockwell seems to be too far ahead.
The Glenrothes club is looking forward to two days of extremely close racing.
Leuchars is situated in Fife and will be signposted from the A91 St Andrews road.
