A step closer for Deny

DENY Philippaerts, younger brother of GP star David, moved a step closer to clinching the European MX2 title with overall victory in the penultimate round of championship at Sverepec, Slovakia, on Sunday.

The Italian teenager (pictured above) won the dayon the second moto tie-break after sharing the top two positions in thehalf-hour motos with fellow Honda rider Gautier Paulin.

The 16-year-old Team Martin rider continues totrail Philippaerts by 24 points, but the big loser of the weekend wasfellow Frenchman Khunsith Vongsana. The previous series leader nowtrails by 12 points after a 5-3 scorecard.

Marvin Musquin, yet another of the French schoolwho had performed so well at the Faenza GP two weeks ago, again failedto show the same speed in the Euro series and no longer has a chance ofthe title, though top four in the series is now secure.

Relentless Suzuki duo, Lewis Gregory and Alex Snowtravelled, into eastern Europe from the UK and both posted goodqualifyng times but, in the races themselves, Lewis could not better12-10 finishes, with Alex back in 18th and 15th at the chequered flag.

The final round of the series is in Denmark on the weekend of the British GP at the end of next month.
