WITH four wins to his credit and runner-up in round four at Abergavenny, Luke Walker seemed to have the British Youth C class championship safely within his grasp, but an off-day at the South Shropshire club's round six on Sunday dropped him to a rare third place, behind round four winner Jack Stones and current third in the series, Jack Burch. Recording lap scores of seven, four and six around the superb ThreeBirches Farm course, Stones reluctantly settled for one three- markpenalty on his punch card, the rest in singles and pairs, to finishfour clear of Burch. Burch recorded his only failure on section 10 onhis first lap, where eventual fifth placed Joe Clements, with a supremeeffort, scooped the only clean of the day in the C class.
Walker collected a 14- mark total on lap one with one five and threethree-mark lossses. He added eight more on lap two and, although fartoo late, had the lowest total on lap three where he safely held offRob Waite.
Clements failed to match his section 10 magic anywhere else around thecourse but easily kept Cheshire star, Dec Bullock and Welsh wizard IwanRoberts, at bay.
Not in the least bit overawed by the fact that Midland Centre hero andworld-travelled Ross Danby was observing one section, eight-year-oldDan Peace carried on his winning sequence in the Medium-wheel D classwith single figure lap scores of five, seven, seven to leave a safemargin between himself and host club member Thomas Minta. Minta closedup slightly on series runner-up Michael Todd who was third on the day,but far ahead of Leam Fenn.
Sharing yet another family winning double Jack Peace claimed theSmall-wheel D class for win number five, again well clear of AldisBlacker on his TY Yamaha, and Elliott Tickner.
At the end of a perfect day at a rare dry area in the Midlands, RossDanby presented the donated trophies to the top six in each class, BVMsponsored riding gloves to class winners. Ross received a framed photoof himself riding in the World Round in Japan.
Later the Peace brothers and their trials riding mother and father were photographed with Ross.
