THE ACU Moggstar BYMX championship moves on to Mildenhall, Suffolk, this weekend for round two of the series following on from a shortened programme at round one due to the inclement Irish weather. The circuit at Mildenhall is situated adjacent to the speedway stadium and has the facilities befitting a Championship of the stature of the BYMX, which is sure to produce some incredible racing action once again.
Ryan Snaith set pole at round one in the Junior class on his MC Motors KTM and went on to prove it was no fluke by taking the overall on the day with a points haul of 123 including one race win that jumping from sixth to second by the end of lap one. Casey Connolly will be looking to continue his consistent form on his Preston Docks KTM and currently sits just eight points adrift of the top of the table. The two other race wins in Ireland went to Robert Yates and Jason Meara, but unfortunately a DNF for Yates has left him with some work to do in the standings with a gap he will be looking to close this weekend.
The Small-wheel 85cc class is now wide open after the fastest two qualifiers, Jack Heath on his Pro Tech Suspension Suzuki and Ben Watson on his PAR KTM both lost points following infringements that led to their disqualification from race two, a bitter blow as Watson had crossed the finish line in first place on his 72cc machine. Following further controversy in leg three Watson's team mate Ben Howell now leads the series by two points from Team Relentless Suzuki's James Dunn, Howell's 129 points coming from a win and two second places.
The Big-wheel 85cc class saw Thor KTM's Daniel Hutchinson dominate the results in Ireland with three wins out of three, a result he will be hoping to duplicate at round two to extend his championship lead. Luke Hawkins took his PAR Honda to pole but couldn't maintain the pace during racing and will be looking to improve on his current sixth place, meanwhile, sitting just behind Hutchinson are Jake Page on the Redline KTM UK machine and Jamie McCanney on the McCanney Yamaha both of who will be pressing hard to break Hutchinson unbeaten record.
The new format for the Open class with a split free practice and timed qualification allows the riders to work on their bike set-up whilst the other classes are on track and Tommy Fenwick on the Dryasdale KTM and fellow KTM mounted Scott Elderfield took full advantage to set fastest times in Groups A and B respectively, Elderfield setting the fastest time by over two seconds secured him the first pick of the gate.
Scott went on to win race two but unfortunately problems in race one have left him with work to do down in ninth in the standings. ACU Academy rider David Games had a good weekend on his Thor KTM and a third and second place sees him sit at the top of the table with 82 points. Fenwick and Sean Macdonald came away on equal points with Fenwick getting the second spot due to his better second leg result.
CJSC is the host club this weekend and with it being the clubs first time running a national it will be pulling out all of the stops to make it an enjoyable event for all those that attend.
The track can be found alongside Mildenhall Stadium, Hayland Drove, West Row, Mildenhall, Suffolk, IP28 8QU. There will be a full weekend of entertainment with qualifying and two blocks of racing on Saturday and a further two blocks of racing on Sunday.
