The UK quad community remains in a state of stunned disbelief following news of the tragic death of 19-year-old Scottish Champion Connor Smith after a race one accident at the QX of European Nations at Cingoli in Italy last Sunday.

Connor's quad slowed on a fast uphill step-up, apparently due to an undetermined technical problem, and a following machine landed directly on top of him, causing fatal injuries.

He is reported to have died in the track medical centre before he could be air-lifted to hospital.

The event was abandoned following the news of Connor's death.

The ACU issued the following statement:

Connor Smith - RIP
It is with great sadness that the ACU has learnt of the tragic death of young Connor Smith on Sunday, October 13.
Connor tragically died following a racing accident while competing at the European Quad Cross of Nations as a member of
Team GB at Cingoli in Italy.
The accident comes as a great shock to the quad racing scene in Britain, as Connor was very talented young rider with a great future in the sport.
At the young age of 19, Connor had recently finished sixth in the British Championship.
The ACU would like to pass their condolences to his family and all his friends at this sad time and assure them that our thoughts and prayers are with them.

ACU Chairman Brian Higgins commented,
"I know exactly what the family are going through at this time and our thoughts go out to them.
"In conjunction with our Insurance Brokers, Lockton's, the ACU are doing everything possible to assist the family including the repatriation of Connor to the UK.
"Unfortunately, this does not happen as quickly as we would all like as there are certain procedures which have to be followed.”
