With just under two-weeks to go everything is in place for the opening round of the 2010 GBXC Series, organised by fasteddyracing.com.

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, May 1/2, the Coney Green Farm venue, near Stourport on Severn, will host the opening round of this national championship series and if last year's opener is anything to go by, it will be a cracker.

Coney Green Farm is the perfect venue, with plentiful paddock parking and very easy access from the road adjacent to the venue.

The course has already been planned and will suit riders of all abilities with a mixture of technical woodland sections and fast open fields. With four classes competing in the morning race and a further four in the afternoon, there will be plenty of non-stop action to watch all around the course.

New for 2010 will be some specially designed loops, where there will be slow and fast lines available to riders, which should see a new beginning in the 2010 GBXC Championships. Organiser, Paul Edmondson will be at Coney Green Farm this weekend, having a good look around and giving himself plenty of time to plan something exciting.

The MCF Federation has confirmed that they too will be helping out with track promotion, by supplying a vast array of trackside banners, start/ finish line signs and an inflatable arch, which all helps with the look and feel of the event, giving a little bit of something extra to the series.

Now for the big news, Paul has confirmed that all rounds will be televised, with a 40-minute programme dedicated to each event. This will be aimed at all riders along with special features from each event.

Even more good news is that David Knight will possibly be in attendance to help promote the event, allowing the GBXC series to maintain the high profile that it has rightly secured over the last two years.

There will be no camping or parking fees and usually this Bank Holiday special turns out to be a great weekend away for both riders, families and spectators. This will be a real ‘family' event where kids can play safely – well away from the course.

More importantly for this opening event, ‘Fast Eddy' has decided to help riders, where it really matters – in their wallets! There is a £5 discount voucher printed on this page and each rider who comes along with a T+MX voucher (no photocopies please) will get £5 off their race entry fee at round one. Registered riders, who would normally pay £40, will get a day of top notch XC racing for just £35. Non-registered riders also receive similar treatment with a fiver knocked off their £50 race fee upon presentation of the T+MX voucher.

This is a practical incentive to encourage riders to ride and is open to all classes of rider – this is a much better deal than giving prizes to a few class winners.

The long-term weather forecast is looking good and this could turn out to be a cracking start to the best, highest profile XC series in the UK.

Registrations for GBXC riders can be downloaded from the website – www.gbxc.co.uk – and entries are available from Mandie on 01543-370070.
