Eddy's Eddy!

THE fourth round of the Putoline XC Champion-ship, organised by Fast Eddy Racing, was staged at the superb Cwm Derwyn Farm, near Welshpool. The four-mile course was a proper Welsh Enduro, which took in open moorland, rocky stream-beds and steep ravines with a few peat bogs thrown in for good measure. It was without doubt the most impressive venue yet in this prestigious Championship Series.
A full weekend's activities saw a busy Youth race on Saturdayafternoon followed by the Clubman and Novice classes on Sunday morningand the Pro, Expert and Super-Clubmen on Sunday afternoon.
The weather was wet and windy for the Saturday training session andrace but Sunday enjoyed glorious sunshine, with no wind, which made fornear perfect conditions.
The series has thrown up three winners from three events in the Proclass. Maximum Solutions' Paul Edmondson took the first, LPE Kawasaki'sRyan Voase the second and Red Bull KTM's David Knight the third, so theChampionship was wide open going into the fourth round.
The afternoon race saw quite a few DNFs as the morning race hadreally improved the bog monsters' appetites and the going got reallytough in a few places.
As the Pro's blasted off the line around a fast right-hander andthen up a farm track, Edmondson and Voase were neck-and-neck. They bothchose different routes around the first big bog section and as theycleared it they came together and both hit the deck. D3 Racing's TomSagar took full advantage and put some distance between himself and thechasing pack as a dozen riders streamed past the two fallen riders.Edmondson, on his 250 Maximum Solutions Suzuki, was first to re-mountand had blasted back through to second place by the end of the openinglap.
The leading pair swapped positions a couple of times beforeEdmondson pulled an ever growing lead over Sagar, who had a big crashat one point and was visibly shaken. The D3 KTM rider hung tough thoughand continued to the chequered flag, 100 seconds behind the victoriousFast Eddy', both having completed 18 laps.
