THE most anticipated and prestigious event in the Australian off-road motorcycle calendar, the Australian Four-Day Enduro, looks set to see an influx of top racers this year with double Enduro 3 world champion, David Knight, topping the list of riders as confirmed entries.
Keeping himself busy during the two-month break in the US GNCCschedule, Knighter will compete down under for the first time as wellas competing internationally in an enduro for more than six-months.
Taking place in Coffs Harbour, on the beautiful north coast of NewSouth Wales, on July 5, the Manxman's participation in the event is...massive for motorcycle racing in Australia as he's the best riderin the world at the moment and an animal on a bike,'' according to theevent organisers.
With riders expecting to cover around 160km per day, includingspecial tests, the A4DE event will actually be a three-day enduro witha final ISDE-style motocross on day four.
Finland's Juha Salminen topped the event last season, and manyexpect Knight to be the rider to beat in 2007 with Aussie GNCC frontrunners Shane Watts, Glenn Kearney and Josh Strang all rumoured to beheading home to contest the event.
''I don't know too much about the event other than my name's down tocompete in it,'' commented Knighter recently having returned to theIsle of Man after two-weeks in the US.
''I have a GNCC race at the end of June and then two months beforethe next event, so it's a good way of keeping myself bike fit. I'veheard a lot about the Aussie event and it sounds good.
''I think the track is in rain forest style woods, which is terrainthat's new to me, and from the sounds of it the final motocross isgoing to be great too. It's a long way to go for a race but I'm reallylooking forward to it.''
