Farewell to Russell

VETERAN trials observer, Russell Line, died in the early hours of Sunday morning near to the start of West Leeds MC's national White Rose Trial, high above the village of Gayle, near Hawes.

The retired heavy plant driver from Bozeat, Wellingborough, wasapparently found in his converted Ford Transit by club officials whoarrived at 8am to run the event.

A much travelled bike enthusiast, Russ was a familiar figure on thetrials scene and observed at all the major trials in the British Isles.Trials riders and followers nationwide knew Russ and listened to hisentertaining comments.

He travelled over half-a-million miles attending events in 15 years and used his Vauxhall Astra as transport and hotel.

Six months ago, the Astra finally broke and his latest vehicle was a more luxurious Ford Transit.

White Rose organiser, Penny Ludgate, had spoken to Russ a few daysprior to the event and allocated him his usual section, calledTroutbeck, on the Cam High Road.

He was a good friend to all involved in the sport of motorcycle trialling.
