AFTER the success of the opening two rounds of the GBXC series, plans and preparations, along with a massive influx of rider entries have been the centre of the organisers attention in recent days. With just over a week to go until round three of the championship – May 3 – at one of North Wales best off-road venues, the GBXC race team have been busy plotting and finalising the circuit at Maeshafn, Mold.
The Maeshafn track is very motocross like in nature, but also offers some leafy and peaty woods linked with some rocky and technical climbs and descents.
The open nature of the course offers superb spectating and viewing areas and with a short walk to the top of the hill you can see almost all of the circuit.
The track for this event will be around five-miles in length and will have a ride time from around ten to 15-minutes per lap depending on ability and fitness.
There have been many classic events at Maeshafn over the years and competitors who have contested previous events will tell you that it can be ridden in one of two ways – either steadily where riders pace themselves around the rocky and bumpy terrain, or fast where riders take on the challenging conditions.
Either way the racing is certainly going to be close and exciting and most definitely enjoyable.
This series is supported by some of the countries top riders, and with the likes of Darryl Bolter coming into superb form, and the strong, fast skills of Greg Evans and Aston Bird currently at the sharp end of the results, Tom Sagar, Matt Ridgeway, Euan McConnell and the rest of the cream of Britain's XC riders will enjoy the challenge that Maeshafn has to offer.
Four-times World Enduro Champion and co-promoter of the series, Paul Edmondson, is also confirmed to ride as a ‘wild card' just to see if he can mix-up that Pro class and add a bit of spice. The big lap-scoring screen along with Roger Harvey's dulcet tones will keep pit crews and supporters up-to-date with race news as it happens.
With a relatively central location not too far from Chester, the event is expected to fill very quickly and all interested riders are urged to enter ASAP to avoid any disappointment.
