QRA Cross Country is all ready to rumble...
By TMX Archives on 22nd Apr 09

THE flag will drop at 11am this Sunday, April 26, at Hannington, off the A339 road between Newbury and Basingstoke, Hampshire, for round one of the new three-hour 2009 QRA UK Quad Cross Country Championship series. None of the classes have clear favourites and the book is open as to who will take the honours. In the Pro Class, reigning champion, Paul Winrow, is busy switching Winrow Honda Racing machines from QuadX to Cross-Country and polishing the number one plate, but Steve Atkins is back on a Honda this year and the two-times champion is out to regain the title.
Other names to expect at, or near the front, include Team Can Am riders Chris Cooper, Iain Johnston and Cross-country Championship new boy Justin Reid, the two-times ACU British QuadX Champion, who is looking forward to the challenge of the long-distance
discipline.
MKM Rocketman Suzuki team-mates Jason Wildman and Oli Sansom, Anderson Suzuki's David Baldwin along with Martin Benbow, John Robson and... well, the list goes on and all are in with a strong shout.
The Expert class has a strong Irish invasion, with five of the lads out to be top dog. But keep an eye on regular campaigner Ian Johnson, who is no slouch and is always at, or near, the front in this class and will want to show the new guys the way home.
Lady Champion, Beverley Barnes has to start as one of the favourites in the Club class, but the guys won't be playing the gentleman when the flag drops.
Moose Pittaway has kept the Rocket Centre Suzuki in stock trim for the Stock class for three years now and has to be considered for one of the steps on the podium.
The Can-Am supported 4x4 Auto Class, which houses the mighty, meaty machines of Quad racing. Jon Morgan is back to tackle this class on his Can Am Renegade, while Simon Lang, Robert Gee and Neil Martin have other ideas, as has new boy Nick Deacon who flies the flag for MKM Rocketman Suzuki in this class.
Registration is still open for those riders wishing to join in the championship which caters for all abilities.
Every round is open to support Quads which will start on their own grid on the back of the Championship classes.
