BYMX riders to Express themselves at Leuchars
By TMX Archives on 22nd Apr 09

AFTER a very successful start to the ACU Express Insurance British Youth Motocross Championship at Mildenhall, all roads now lead to the north of the country to Scotland for round two of the championship. The venue is the sandy and technical track at Commerton Farm, Leuchars, near St Andrews, in Fife. Organised by the Glenrothes Youth MCC. Bobby Blair and his merry men (and women) will be there to welcome you all again to this exciting venue, and if last years round was anything to go by, then it will be a cracker. Bobby and his gang have been hard at work getting the track ready and everything is ready and waiting, apart from the flags and banners.
Predictions are abound with who will win at this meeting, but going by what happened at Mildenhall to a few riders especially James Hutchinson who ended up with a broken wrist, and Luke Hawkins not recovered enough to continue at the same meeting, the Open class is wide open.
In the Par Homes Youth Open class, Josh Waterman will be full of commitment after taking the overall at Mildenhall, as well as scoring points at the European MX2 meeting at Hawkstone.
Waterman comes to Leuchars with a nine point lead over second place man Josh Spinks, who rode well to take the first race at Mildenhall, behind these two are a gaggle of riders who could also go well at Leuchars. One other rider to watch out for will be Ewan McLaren aboard the Moto One KTM who always goes well round this track.
Ryan Houghton who is also on the Danger UK team aboard a KTM leads the championship by just one point in the Big-wheel 85 Class with Nathan Watson lying in second. Local Scottish boy Matthew Fleming is lying in fifth place and could put the top boys under pressure at his home track. Along with Belgium based Sunny Thompson, and Luke Norris also in the chase.
Ben Watson another Academy Rider showed he is on the pace by taking all the wins at Mildenhall, but close behind him are a few riders that could upset the apple cart, namely Tom Neal and Connor Clark.
Meanwhile the Cobra backed 65cc class leader from Mildenhall Conrad Mewse will have to be on his best form as Henry Williams and Jamie Carpenter and a host of other riders will be after his scalp, to take the lead of the championship at this meeting. This class should be one to watch as the deep sand caused a few heartaches last year to the championship leaders.
In the new class for this year the Clubman Experts and the Clubman Juniors, Ryan Pottenger leads David Fearne by three points in the experts, while George Baldwin has a fifteen point lead over Michael Eccles in the Junior class.
The new flags and banners seen at Mildenhall have certainly given the series a colourful start, and hopefully the new inflatable arch will be erected at Leuchars along with the flags and banners to give us a professional look.
Just one thing at Mildenhall someone spoiled the effect by stealing a few flags, anyone who see's these at this event or at other events elsewhere please report this to the ACU.
The track will be signposted on the A91 to St Andrews.
