Getting back in the saddle
By Jonny Walker on 23rd Nov 12

THIS has been a pretty average month for me, with nothing too exciting happening.
I have done no training on or off the bike, as I just haven't felt up to it.
It's been a bit boring but it's what the doctor said I should do to speed up my recovery after my bout of glandular fever.
Meanwhile, as all this was going on, I was able to go and spend a day at the Dirt Bike show where it was cool to see some old friends, sponsors and the public.
I then headed home to get myself ready for an endurocross I had been invited to in Finland.
We flew into Helsinki where it was freezing (-1) and went to Ktm Nordic, got the bike and headed to the arena at Tempere.
When we arrived there was also a supercross going on so I decided that it would be fun to do and with 24-hours free practice I would be able to get used to the track. After the three qualifying races I made the final in the supercross so I was really happy.
With no practice for the endurocross it was straight into three laps and your fastest lap counted.
Matti Seistola went fastest and I was second by 0.2 of a second. I was gutted to come second and decided not to ride the supercross the next day and save as much energy as I could to try for the endurocross win.
We went in order of position from the day before, which meant I could put the pressure on Matti.
I put in a near-perfect second lap which I was hoping would make it tough.
When Matti went, though, he looked fast and I was starting to wonder whether I had done enough.
But his fastest was 0.6seconds behind my time, so I had taken the victory and won some sunglasses.
I actually made a good decision for once in my life.
I had a couple of days to recover when I arrived home and I have started fitness training again, which makes the days more fun.
And I am going to dust off my old trials bike and go for a ride in a local event this weekend.
One of my race shirts is going to be auctioned off this month to raise money for a local fund for youngsters who want to build a bmx track.
