Haver wonderful time in Cumbria

HAVERIGG in Cumbria plays host to the fifth round of the PAR Homes backed BYMX Championship this weekend, July 7/8, as Cumbria Youth MXC host the event.
The championship has been blessed with some extremely good racing so far this season and the tough, sandy Haverigg track, situated almost right on the beach, looks set to provide even more top flight action across the weekend.
PAR Homes KTM rider Ben Watson is proving to be the lad to beat in the Junior 65cc class having built up a 36 point lead at the head of the table after taking a total of 12 wins from 16 starts. Second place Callan Cooper on the Moggstar KTM has been riding consistently and has a nice cushion over Jack Heath on the Pro Tech Vans KTM machine. Sixth place rider Michael Eccles is the first non KTM mounted rider on his Corby Kawasaki.
Matthew Fleming had his worst round of the season so far in the changing conditions at Pontrilas, but he still heads the Small-wheel 85cc championship on his Dunlop MotoOne Honda by 33 points from Hooper Properties Honda rider Rob Muscat.
The top three podium spoils have been distributed over the top championship places with eighth placed Jamie McCanney who has bagged three race wins, two seconds and four third places, but he missed round three of the championship with injury which has seriously damaged his championship standing. He will be up the sharp end on the day though.
Sam Davis, on his 150F Albion Honda, has only had two finishes outside the top three all year and heads the Big-wheel 85cc championship by a sizeable 56 points, but with 45 points for a win this could soon evaporate should anything go wrong for the Marshfield flier.
Josh Spinks has ridden his Redline KTM consistently quickly all year and has been keeping Davis in second place in the title race. Last year's Small-wheel 85cc champion Connor Walkley has only taken his Team Green Kawasaki to one top-three finish, but his consistency has kept him in the title chase in fourth spot behind Richie Worrall on the SixSixOne Suzuki.
KTM-mounted Lewis Tombs has shown he can win from the front and fight his way through the pack to pick-up good points scores, and he is currently 69 points clear at the head of the Intermediate championship for 125cc bikes. A DNF for second placed rider David Games on the PAR Homes Honda helped build that big gap and he now has JD Racing KTM rider Will Worden breathing down his neck. Pioneer Yamaha's Dan Arnold made his debut outing in the championship at Pontrils following infury and came away with the overall victory thanks to a 2-4-1-4 scorecard and will no doubt put the cat among the pigeons again at Haverigg this weekend.
RDH Pro Circuit Honda's Alex ‘Rocky' Rockwell heads the Premier class of the BYMX as well as the new Maxxis MXY2 class currently and is the rider to beat for title. Sitting 56 points behind Rockwell is Team Green Kawaskai rider Lewis King who closed the gap on the leader by 15 points at round four and will be looking to take even more at Haverigg.
Luke Burton on the Bradgate KTM took three race wins at Pontrilas but a no-score in race three along with some low scoring results early in the year leave him down in seventh place in the title race, but with the speed he has been showing he could start to claw his way back up the leader board.
All of the classes will have qualifying and two races on Saturday and will finish up with two races on Sunday. Haverigg can be found on the South West tip of Cumbria, off the A5093.
