THE second round of the Elite Youth Cup was perhaps the most awaited and anticipated Youth national of the year so far. The question on everyone's mind was could the Matt Bates lead team serve up another stunning success to match the opening round in April? Well, keeping it short and sweet, yes, they certainly did.

The course at Landrake, in Cornwall, was prepared, dressed andpampered to an incredibly high standard, a level of preparation, organization and presentation that if kept up, really will take Youthmotocross to a new level.

The only black spot on the weekend yet again was the weather inmiddle England as it prevented some 40 or so riders from making it toCornwall to enjoy what was a really cracking weekend.

Jack Heath and Ben Watson, with two race wins apiece, stole the show in the Junior 65cc class.

Ben took the opening two race wins brilliantly but it was obviousfrom the speed and tenacity that Jack showed, especially in race onewhere there was less than a second between them as they crossed theline, that there was more to come. So it proved on day two as Jackdominated with the final two race wins and enough points to secure theoverall victory.

The other race win went to Chubbie Hammond as he took a blisteringholeshot and managed to hold off the chasing pack as Ben and Jack wentdown in a heap with others in the middle of the first turn charge.

There were lots of other memorable moments from Corrie Southwood,Micky Eccles, Matty Callaghan and the rest over the course of thefive-race weekend.

With his best performance of the year so far, Dan Thornhill came outall guns blazing in the Small-wheel 85cc class. Dan featured largely inevery holeshot, scorching around the hilltop first turn then maintainedhis pace and power over the opening laps of each moto to end theweekend with a truly impressive three race wins, two second places, abig smile on his face and a really nice trophy to stick on themantlepiece.

Tom Rogers claimed an impressive second place overall and like Danhas proved lately that, given some fast dirt to race on, he can mix itwith the best of them. From Tom's five races, he never finished worsethan fourth and had a best of second.
