THE numbers are up for the double-header ACU British Ladies and Girls Trials Championship at Scarborough and Hovingham this Saturday and Sunday. Scarborough and Eboracum run rounds three and four respectively with 26 starters in each trial, writes Barry Robinson.
Katy Sunter is back in the Adult class on each day and Kelsey Williamson comes into Youth C. She is one of many blossoming Scarborough youngsters.
The Low North Park course has been devised by Dave Chilton who has planned for 15-sections and two-laps. Time allowance will be 5.5-hours which will be confirmed at the start and the first riders fire up at 10am. The venue has toilets and a pro-standard catering unit but note there is NO drinking water on the estate. The nearest fuel outlet is in Scarborough. The Low North Park complex will remain open for any overnight camper vehicles etc.
Eboracum take over on Sunday morning at Hovingham which is roughly 30-miles west of Scarborough and five-miles north west of Malton, signed off the B1257. Start time will be 10.30am. Note that there is no overnight camping at Hovingham Quarry. Vicky Ellis is the clerk of course for this championship round having forgone her ride in the Adult Inter class, which she won at Bracken Rocks seven days prior to the Hovingham Trophy Trial. Vicky has planned a different format to Scarborough and will present ten sections and four laps for all classes. Time allowance, subject to weather conditions, will be five hours.
The venue is not the working quarry but the old quarry. Both trials will be a showdown in Adult, Youth A, B and C but with Vicky Ellis obviously out of the equation on Adult Inters on Sunday. A question mark also hangs over Helen Lang. It would seem that the Manchester lady broke a toe at Bracken Rocks so may be a non-starter.
Eyes down for a cracking weekend.
