THE British Motocross Championship received a major boost last week when title sponsor of the series for the past five years, Maxxis, signed contracts with the ACU to extend it's sponsorship of the series for another three years through to 2010.

The deal was announced at a special pressconference at round six of the championship at Skelder Bank, Whitby, onSunday morning where Managing Director for Maxxis, Derek McMartinsigned contracts, and the ACU were particularly pleased about the dealwhich it says is significantly extended'' compared to the previousdeals.

Given that the last deal between the ACU andMaxxis amounted to around 180,000 over three years, the deal appearsto be a rather significant one which will hopefully take thechampionship to the next level in terms of professionalism andpromotion.

Derek McMartin said, We are extremely proud tocontinue our support of one of the strongest domestic championships inthe world. Since 2002 the professionalism of motocross - the teams andriders - has increased dramatically, as has the popularity of theseries. We are very pleased that our support and involvement in thisexcellent product is growing significantly over the period of thecontract and also proud that we are able to once again includemotocross in our very broad sporting sponsorship portfolio.''

Roy Humphrey, Chair-man of the ACU MotocrossCommittee added, My thanks to Derek and Maxxis Tyres for continuingtheir support to the series. This new deal with Maxxis will bringvaluable continuity to the planning for the championship into futureyears, which in turn will allow us to develop the series further still.I know that we will repay the support Maxxis Tyres gives by producingour own World Champion in the not too distant future.''
