THE 2007 CCM British MMX Champions were crowned on Sunday afternoon at Pontrilas following the announcement on Sunday morning at the event that the final round of the championship, scheduled to take place on September 2 at new venue Hopwood Moto Park, had been cancelled.
As a result new British Under 21 champion RayRowson, Four-stroke king Wayne Smith, now double Quad championshipwinner John Mitchell and Sidecar supremo's John and Mark Watson claimedtheir respective titles at the Herefordshire venue, al-though, sadly, very little was made of the riders achievements by the ACU with just ahastily organised podium presentation at the end of each classes secondmoto to mark the occasion.
The ACU Motocross Committee was made aware of theloss of the Hopwood venue due to objections from the local council andresident by organisers Champ MX on Wednesday, August 15.
A deadline of Saturday afternoon was given toChamp Mx to find an alternate venue, but despite confidence that analternative facility would be found, no venue was forthcoming bySaturday evening at Pontrilas and the ACU's Motocross Manager RoyBarton took the decision to pull the plug on the final round.
With the Quad and Sidecar classes already havinglost a round due to flooding, the cancellation was anotherdisappointment for those competitors, but the loss of final round alsodenied numerous riders the chance to better their championshippositions and the respective champions the properly organisedpresentations.
T+MX News extends its congratulations to all the champions and the final championship standings in each class are as follows:
