Colunists

Its trad national time again folks. Recently it was a super roam off-road in the Yorkshire Dales with the Wetherby clubs Wainwright National...

This Sunday  (July 3) sees the 31st Dave Rowland Trophy Trial coming-up, unchanged as ever, courtesy of the Manchester 17 club, in the Derbyshire Dales, starting from High Edge, just outside Buxton.

The mileage is mild, some 26-miles taking in 40 sections, scattered across 19 groups. Harvey Lloyd is the chief architect, when not hauling journos out of muddy streams (Barry!). Harvey has been playing-out with his assistant Ade Mellor these last few weeks exploring the delights of Ben's Scars, Normans, Cumberland Rivers and Plantation.

The latter will afford shelter if the sun is beating down. The midges will be on the attack at Hilda's and Manor Rocks, the latter marks the half way point of the day.

Hawks Nest is again on the agenda, just a pair of subs up the rock gully then off to Cut-Thorn and big slabs at Danebower. The final fling is the ride up the A54 trunk road (watch out for the ton-up boys, and others dressed in blue who do not appreciate wheelies).

Ross Danby, Dan Thorpe, 2008 winner Richard Timperley and the evergreen Mick Boam  are all in the entry list while other names to consider are Toby Eyre, Mike Roberts, Mark Reynolds, Shawn Fox, Ross Crosby, Craig and Liam Robinson, Wainwright Clubman winner Paul Bennett and triple clubbie winner the vastly experienced John Hulme.

The backmarkers are Mike Edwards, Scott Rowland and ‘Factory' Kev Hipwell. Time allowance is a generous seven hours and the first man will leave High Edge at 9am.
