THE penultimate round of the Metzeler British Enduro Championship travelled to Mid Wales at the weekend and Tom Sagar claimed his second consecutive Championship class win at the Rhayader MC-organised EMG Rhayader Enduro as the KTM-mounted youngster again showed the type of form that could well see him win his first ever British Enduro Championship title in just a few weeks time...
Britains emerging young enduro star, Tom Sagar, continued his impressive run of winning results in the British EnduroChampionship by claiming victory on both days AT the penultimate roundof the series - the Rhayader Enduro, staged at the Cwmythig motocrosscomplex in Mid Wales.
Following several weeks of fine weather during thebuild-up to the event this year's Rhayader Enduro wasn't as demandingas many feared and even with several tight time checks included on theopening day, the results were decided on the seven-kilometre specialtest.
Though nine of the 18 Championship ridersremaining clean on time on day one, Sagar topped the results. Despitethe dew-covered opening tests being as slippery as ice in many parts -more than a few riders parting company with their machines as a result- there was little to separate Paul Edmondson, Si Wakely, Tom Sagar andEuan McConnell, with Edmondson getting the early upper hand.
Eventually though it was KTM-mounted Sagar whoemerged as the overall day one winner. Finishing third on the openingand second tests a time five-seconds quicker than Edmondson on thethird and final one ensured that he claimed the top spot.
The fastest rider in Enduro 1 Championship classon day one was KTM-mounted Greg Evans. Improving with each event,Greg's hopes of collecting the class win went out the window when hepicked up a one-minute penalty. This resulted in Edward Jones finishingat the top of the results while Greg ended up fourth in class.
Comfortably ahead having ridden well on each ofthe tests, Ed Jones placed some 24-seconds ahead of second man ChrisHockey, with 125cc Honda-mounted Ashley Wood third, just eight-secondsbehind Hockey.
