THE 2008 model Scorpa SY250R two-stroke trials bike made a surprise debut at the Hawkstone Park British Trial GP at the weekend when it was quietly slid out of the factory awning and onto a display stand.
The Yamaha-powered bike looked good with its newblack frame plus snazzy graphics, now sturdy one-piece decals, with awhite, silver and blue theme.
Like the 2008 Shercos, also launched at Hawkstone,Scorpa also sports a new front fork set-up. The French manufacturer hasopted for the latest Marzocchis which feature coated aluminiumstantions - as pioneered by Gas Gas. This saves a useful 850g, oraround two pounds in old money, over the previous set-up. Newtriple-clamps accompany the change as the Marzocchis feature beefy 40mmalloy stanchions against the old 38mm steel tubes.
Detail changes include a thinner bash plate, newbars, grips, clutch and brake hoses, footpegs and brake discs featuringa new material.
Said British importer Nigel Birkett, ''This yearit is all about the chassis as the engine was improved last year and Iam pleased with the changes which keep us moving in the rightdirection. I think that the weight saving in the new fork is perfectfor us as our weight-bias is slightly front-heavy and this ought toimprove our balance factor.''
Like the Sherco, Scorpa is also looking at an early September arrival.
