YEADON Guiseley & DMC Ltd will be running its MacKenzie Trophy Trial this Sunday, August 5, and the trial will, of course, represent Round 6 of the Colin Appleyard 2007 ACU British Trials Championship. And instead of the event's usual Addingham Moorside venue, because of the well-known planning issues concerning Addingham, this year's trial will take place at Brimham Rocks, Pateley Bridge.
Usual MacKenzie section plotter, James Noble, isunfortunately laid low at the moment, thanks to a bust Achilles tendon, sustained in the recent Reeth Three-Day Trial, so Mike Hinch has takenover the position as Clerk of Course and Andrew Carter will share theduties. John Lampkin has supervised the sections at the new venue andwas on the course on Monday afternoon, laying out the last foursections at Brimham. Mike's terse description of this brand new trialwas formidable!''.
Good news is that the car park area is drying outrapidly and we are told that there is ample room available for bothpaddock and public car parking.
To reach the venue, spectators are asked to follow the road signs from Summerbridge and Fellbeck.
Graham Jarvis and Joe Baker, leaders of theChampionship and Expert classes respectively, stand on identicalchampionship positions after five rounds. Both have suffered just onedefeat this year; Jarvis went down in the West of England trial in Juneto Preston's Shaun Morris while Baker was defeated in Wales by Bewdleyteenager Ross Danby, at the St David's Trial.
All competitors will be on a totally level playingfield on Sunday as none of the contenders have ridden Brimham Rocks atchampionship level. The venue is new for the trial, and the sectionsare also brand new. This could well be the crucial round of the series.
The event marks the first appearance of 2006Junior Cup world champion James Dabill, and his Future Montesa. Due toWorld and Italian Championship commitments, the Leeds rider has missedthe first five events of the Colin Appleyard series. But Jarvis willhave no fears, having beaten Dibs comfortably during his epic ride toeighth at Hawkstone Park last Sunday. Newly crowned World Junior ChampMichael Brown should have a new spring in his step though and couldwell be the danger man.
Baker will be pressured by Danby, Dan Thorpe, DanHemingway, Sam Ludgate, and by world number three female trialler BeckyCook who tackled the Junior Cup course at Hawkstone.
Practice will take place on Sunday from 8.30 to10.30am with the contest kicking-off at 11.30am over three laps of adozen sections. Total time allowance will be five and half hours.
