Seconds out - round 3

FOLLOWING the opening two rounds at Kinlochleven, Scotland and Neath, West South Wales, the East South Wales centre will stage the third round of the Colin Appleyard ACU 2007 British Trials Championship on Sunday, May 20, at Llwyncelyn, Cwmyoy, Abergavenny. The actual venue will be signed off the A465 Abergavenny to Hereford road
At the last round of the series - as at the first - reigning British Champion Graham Jarvis won the event, from Charnock electrician Shaun Morris who matched Jarvis with a final score of eight penalties, but only after two time penalties were added the winner's final score!
Jarvis will again ride the MRS Sherco four-stroke machine while Morris rides his JST Gas Gas two-stroke. Scarborough's Michael Brown, also an electrician, comes hot from second place in the Scottish Six days Trial - where he pipped Jarvis on the final day - while Steve Colley comes to Wales nice and fresh (no SSDT this year for Steve) and clear of his recent injuries.
Scottish Six Days winner James Dabill will sadly miss this event as he is contesting the Italian Championship for his Future TRW team while Ian Austermuhle, Lee Sampson and Ben and Dan Hemingway will also not contest the event.
In the hotly-contested and highly competitive Expert Championship, Lynton's Scorpa star Joe Baker is just four points ahead of Bewdley teenager Ross Danby on the 125 Gas Gas but Dan Thorpe, Mika Vesterinen, Chris Pearson, James Fry and Robert Andrews, amongst a host of others, will be looking to unseat the top two.
The non-championship Youth class features top Yorkies Jack Challoner and Jonathan Richardson but Somerset youth Ricky Wiggins and Herne Bay challenger Ben Morphett are up for the challenge.
The course will follow the established British Championship format with three laps of 12 sections and a time allowance of two and a half hours for the first lap of the trial. The total time allowed to complete the course will be five and half hours. The clerk of course is Mr Phil Evans.
The allowed practice lap will commence at 8.30am on Sunday morning while the actual competition will start at 11am.
