Sergis/Stupelis 'raine

AS had been predicted last week, the number of riders entered for the third round of the World Sidecar-cross Championship round at Chernivtsi, Ukraine, was lower than the norm but with 35 crews in attendance Saturday's qualification was more eventful than anticipated, writes CHRIS HELM.
All the teams participated in the two free practice sessions plus their respective qualifying race.
The ‘last chance' session ended up as bit of a farce when three local teams suddenly withdrew leaving the remaining eight outfits guaranteed either a start or either of the two reserve positions, but more importantly for them, they all received the travel indemnity.
Predictably, Daniel Willemsen won Qualifying race one and Kristers Sergis Qualifying race two.
On Sunday, Sergis won the opening GP moto while Willemsen managed only third place. In moto two, Willemsen made amends and won ahead of Sergis.
This gave former champion, Sergis, his first overall win of the year and lifted him up to fourth in the championship table, behind Willemsen and the Hendrickx boys, Jan and Joris.
The next round is on June 1, in Italy, where there are 47 riders entered, with Brits in attendance.
