Smith wins a Cracker

A NEW ACU-approved class - Quads Short Track - got its first airing at the Christmas Cracker event held at Scunthorpe Speedway Stadium on Saturday, December 30. With six Quads per race, racing off a three-grid system, there was passing aplenty to thrill a 1,400-strong holiday weekend crowd.
Stand-out rider from the off was Adrian Smith who sensationally passed fellow 350 Banshee rider Brendan March in a racing manoeuvre in heat one that set the trend for the 12-race event.
Winner of that race and early pace-setter was George Penfold from the famous Kentish grass-tracking family. However, Smith gained revenge in the restarted Grand Final which saw the Peterborough-based speedster triumphant and local Lincolnshire rider Alan Hooker snatch second from 500 Kawasaki-mounted Penfold.
RESULTS
Grand Final: 1 Adrian Smith (350 BSD Banshee), 2 Alan Hooker (350 Yamaha), 3 George Penfold (500 Kawasaki), 4 Mark Wrenn (250 Honda), 5 Steve Pantrey (300 RST).
