The power of positive thought

Press release of the week goes to the FIM, with the bombshell that the 2013 World Trials Champs will be run under No Stop rules.

You will see on this page – with even a modest amount of luck – a pretty pic of an awesome line-up of 2013 model Kawasaki motocross machines (38 in total, trust me, I counted them!) and riders.

The occasion was the launch of no-fewer than nine Kawasaki UK supported MX teams. In all honesty I can't remember when I last saw a one-make line up this impressive.

Possibly never.

In these seemingly never-ending days of fiscal negativity (or whatever the current buzzword may be) credit crunching, triple dipping etc, etc, what a brilliant way to banish the blues.

In times like these there are only two things you can do. Something or nothing.

If you do something you are in control of your own destiny and can hope to make something happen.

If you do nothing then that is EXACTLY what is going to happen. Nothing.

And it is going to happen sooner rather than later!

So, let's hear it for Kawasaki for opting for the former. It puts out a really positive message and announces to the world that they really mean business.

In an ideal world we all pull together and many sporting events are aimed at broadening the
appeal of off-road to increase the number of customers.

Reality though is that it is a dog-eat-dog world and ultimately Brand A wants to sell more product than Brand B. It is that simple and that brutal.

Team Green and its philosophy was the brainchild of the ‘Ace Boss' Alec Wright – and the wily old Wrighty would totally appreciate this show of strength and vision.

Moving over to the US of A – if you believe the news reports – times are supposed to be even harder over the pond than here!

Clearly, no-one has thought to inform the Supercross-going public of this, as they continue to pack the mighty stadiums with around 50,000 bums on seats weekly for the AMA series.

Obviously it isn't all rosy, with some teams operating on reduced budgets and indeed some going to the wall – including one in which former SX king Jeremy McGrath was part owner.

But with those spectator numbers there should be more than enough cash from the series to keep the teams afloat.

After all, without the teams there is no show so I trust they are standing there with their hands out...

Maybe they just need to re-align their priorities. I mean, you don't need a $100,000 semi trailer to cart an MX bike round in, or a team of 20 to run after the rider.

I'd rather be riding than looking at a monster big-rig with no bike in the back...
