Trials Torque: New venue for UK World Trial
By Team TMX on 9th Dec 15
THE UK round of the 2016 World Trial Championship sees the event move from north Cumbria, where Nord Vue near Penrith has hosted the event for several years, to Yorkshire where the Parkwood Off Road Centre at Tong, situated between Leeds and Bradford, will be the venue.
Tong is well known to Yorkshire trials riders as it is in regular use with several clubs making use of the facility.
John Kerwin and Graham Jarvis are again promoting the World Trial and John said: "Yorkshire has a strong trials tradition and it is many years since an outdoor world championship trial was held on Yorkshire soil.”
John continued, "The trial needed a move, we had exhausted the opportunities at Nord Vue, and this venue fits the bill ticking all the boxes and meeting all FIM requirements.
"Section designer Graham Jarvis has made many visits to the site and has identified and designed 12 fantastic sections. Work starts with immediate effect on the construction of the sections which will be a mixture of natural streams, gullies and banks enhanced with additional rocks, as we did with Penrith. It's all about the vision and turning it into reality.”
The Yorkshire World Trial at Parkwood takes place on the weekend July 17/18 and the event will also see the first visit of the FIM Women's World Trials Championship to the UK which will run alongside the men's event.
As British girls currently boast the top three in the World, with Emma Bristow the reigning Champion followed by Becky Cook and Donna Fox, this is the perfect opportunity to show off their skills on home ground.
And with the likes of Jess Bown, Chloe Richardson and Katy Sunter plus many more up and comers in the lively UK Ladies scene very likely planning a ride this really is one for the girls.
On a practical front the factory paddock will be tarmac hard standing, which the site owners had specially constructed for homologation, while the spectator parking is on grass slopes facing down on to an exit road so there shouldn't be any problems whatever the weather.
Yorkshire has hosted several successful World Championship rounds in the past at Pateley Bridge and at Raydale near Bainbridge and the county enjoys a huge trials following.
Tickets for the 2016 event will be on sale in January and John Kerwin is confident that with the venue in the heart of Yorkshire this could be a sell-out.
