WHILE the GP boys duke it out across the Irish sea at Fairyhouse Racecourse this Sunday, August 31, the Best of British will be going at it hammer and tongs for those vital few remaining championship points as the ACU British MMX Championship heads to Cusses Gorse on Salisbury Plain for the final round of the Open and Under 21 series'.
A week after the venue hosted a very successful penultimate BYMX championship round, the organising West Devon club is back at the venue for the big boys final fight where the still undecided Under 21 title chase takes centre stage.
Three riders are up with the chance of walking away with the 2008 PAR Homes British Under 21 title with just the weekend's two races remaining and a fierce battle is expected to rage all day between the main protagonists.
Alex Snow (pictured right) on the team KTM UK machine is sitting in the favourites seat currently, holding a slender 17 point lead over his rivals, Kristian Whatley (pictured left), who switched over to the CCM team mid-season, with the third candidate for the title being Ashley Greedy on the Talbot Cars Suzuki a further 17 points behind Whatley. All three are proven race winners and the fast, jumpy Cusses Gorse will appeal to all three so expect fireworks on the day.
Wayne Smith aboard the Pioneer Emberson Yamaha will come to the final already crowned the 2008 champion having amassed an unassailable 63 point lead over second place, but the battle is on for the runner-up spot with Bryan MacKenzie on the Twisted 7 Kawasaki holding off the current form- man and CCMs 2009 signing Ray Rowson on the PAR Honda separated by just 15 points.
The two championship classes will be backed up with a non qualifiers and support race with two classes specifically dedicated to two-stroke machinery in both 250cc and 125cc catagories.
Practice will get under way at 10am with race one going to the line at 12.30 pm on the dot. Entrance for adults is £10 with concessions for children and OAP visitors.
