Youth Club: Slack piles on the pounds
By Team TMX on 9th Dec 15
In this allegedly obese youth nation one teenage trials rider is fighting a battle that entails eating pies, biscuits and drinking sugar lush drinks, to gain weight.
Whitwick Class B National youth trials contender Daniel Slack has all the talents to climb the youth ranks going into his second year in Class B.
In his Class C era he won the rain lashed Lake District championship event apparently unfazed by the conditions then won the next event on the calendar.
This year his efforts in Class B were rewarded with eighth place. Not brilliant, but read on. It was the 13-years-olds rookie year in the class. Billy Green dominated the class and he is just a class act at present.
The placing at national level was shaded by YMSA, East Midland Centre and Moorlands Youth Championships. On top of three titles the most prized was a top ten result in the National Mintex Youth Trial at Richmond.
Daniel was a first timer and the youngest entrant. MRS Sherco teamster Luke Walker stepped in with valued advice and assistance at the end of the championship season. Daniel was short on wheel grip due in some way due to his weight of just seven stones. Also his Ohlin shocker was over hard on spring pressure and the damping was not right for the rider. Luke took further action and loaned Daniel his factory specification Ohlin unit.
The effect was immediate. The feel and grip were on tap. MRS supremo Malcolm Rathmell promised a solution to the problem, such is the confidence in his young teamster. Slack will be ready for the Class B championship well before the opening trial on May 28.
The Newbridge Academy pupil aims to contest all the major youth championship trials next year and become an Ashby de la Zouch Grammar School pupil – and put on some pounds.
