Around 6,000 fans turned out to Manchester’s AO Arena to witness Scotland’s Dean Wilson secure his first-ever ACU British Championship title. The 33-year-old Armor Vision St Blazey MX Honda rider dominated on the night with three solid wins and wrapped up the championship with a huge Nac Nac as he crossed the finish line in the Main Event – which also served as the second qualifying round for the AX World Tour.

Although Wilson won all of his races on the night, he was made to fight hard for every one of them. Conrad Mewse (Crendon TRU7 Honda) made Wilson chase hard in his opening heat while Thomas Ramette (SR75 Suzuki) pushed him just as hard in his second appearance to set up a nervy Main Event for the series leader.

When the gate dropped, Ramette leapt into an early lead ahead of Wilson, heat winner Michael Hicks (Stark Future) and Spaniard Joan Cros (Substance JPR Kawasaki) who was forced to roll the Finish Line double and created a buffer for the breakaway leading group.

Ramette held the advantage for several laps before Wilson was able to make a move for the lead with Hicks also passing Ramette as the leaders got in amongst the lapped traffic. Unable to hear Hicks’ Stark, Deano spent a lot of the Main looking over his shoulder, but he’d already built up enough of a buffer not to have to worry about any attack from behind. After 16 laps of full-throttle racing, Wilson crossed the line four seconds ahead of Hicks with Ramette third.

After a fall in his second outing, Mewse had an unfavourable gate pick for the Main Event and after a midpack start battled his way through the field to place fifth and secure second in the British Championship.

With the British Championship scored separately, the running order on the night was Wilson, Mewse, Jack Brunell (Stark Future), Eddie Wade (Stark Future), Adam Chatfield (S Briggs Honda), Matt Bayliss (SC Sporthomes) and with double points up for grabs Mewse secured series second ahead of Brunell and Chatfield.

In the Amateur class, a start-to-finish win for Raife Broadley saw him secure the title ahead of Louis Brookes while Sion Talbot took third on the night and in the championship.

Isaac Ash secured the Futures championship with a third place in the Main Event despite Harry Lee putting him under serious pressure. The big winner on the night though was Austin Beasty who took an emotional victory.

Small-wheel competitor John Slade took the Supermini series victory ahead of George Cherry who won in front of the crowds but still had to settle for second overall on the day after a difficult first race which was held behind closed doors. Slade ran 2-1 to secure the overall on the night and win the championship.

Cameron Berry aced the Mini class with two wins but it wasn’t enough to stop Mason Staddon from taking the championship win. Third on the night and in the championship was Frank Bishop.
