2023 Drumlanrig Off Road Festival stars confirmed
By Geoff Shuttleworth on 10th Apr 23
It’s hard to believe how quickly the last 12 months have flown by as it’s time to head back to Drumlanrig Castle on May 20/21 for the Drumlanrig Off Road Motosport Festival. Now just weeks away, the Galloway Club members are already in full swing with their preparations for the eagerly anticipated event.
The big news is that 1981 250cc world champion Neil Hudson will be this year’s Guest of Honour, following in the footsteps of last year’s four legends Heikki Mikkola, Brad Lackey, Roger DeCoster and Graham Noyce who eventually made it to Drumlanrig after some shenanigans on the M6.
If you have not been to Drumlanrig before then it is worth the trip, as the scenery and its setting are stunning. And with the castle and its grounds open to everyone, catering, entertainment, bike displays and a marquee with a bar, there is something for everyone.
Camping is available from Thursday lunchtime until Monday with toilets and running water available.
The action kicks off on Thursday evening with a road run, then Friday sees signing-on followed by the opening ceremony and a fun grass track event. Saturday and Sunday will see the main activities begin with the two-day Scramble along with the trial which has now also been extended to both days.
As usual Cecil Pearson will be bringing his JAP scrambles team over from Northern Ireland and their antics are worth the admission fee alone. I’m hoping we may see the all-action demos from the Lawnmower Grass Track Association again during the interval plus I’ll also be making a purchase or two from the Farmers’ Market that is also coming back for both Saturday and Sunday.
The Castle is located just a few miles north of Thornhill. It is well-signposted from the A76 and the postcode is DG3 4AQ.
Early-bird spectator tickets are now available on the Galloway Motorcycle Club website (gallowaymcc.com) if you would like to save a few quid.
