Motocross

Weston super Mare becomes an off-road wonderland every October as 1000s of mentalist moto-heads crowd into the resort for the annual beach race DON'T FORGET to wrap-up warm for this year's Weston beach-blast on October 23/24. You'd be quite literally mental to miss it as the highest class entry ever seen in Somerset will take to the sands for two days of crazy competition. The sidecars and quads race for three hours from noon on Saturday with the solos taking over the beach from midday on Sunday. There's also supporting monster truck races and freestyle sessions throughout the weekend as well as plenty of trade stands on t'prom. Some of the biggest names in off-road motorcycling will rip up the beach including sand-master Stefan Everts who must start as pre-event favourite. But Josh Coppins, Travis Pastrana, Carl Nunn, Yoshi Atsuta, David Knight, Paul Edmondson or even the Weston Gorilla could all pull off a surprise win if things go their way. And that's the beautiful thing with the Weston beach race, anything can happen and it usually does. More info is available on the Weston website - www.westonbeachrace.com - and you can beat the queues by booking your event tickets now on 01873 840086. If you still need accommodation for the weekend it may well be worth calling the North Somerset tourism office who'll be able to hook you up with a place to sleep on 01934 888800. Weston super Mare is superbly signposted from Junction 21 of the M5 - see you there.
